Harbor air, trolley bells, courthouse steps, and corner cafés give Downtown San Diego a steady pulse. Within this same grid stands the San Diego Central Jail, just steps from the courthouses and civic offices that anchor the neighborhood. Downtown is a place of contrasts: a lively waterfront and business district paired with institutions that keep the city running day to day.
How the jail shapes the day downtown
The San Diego Central Jail plays a unique role in the downtown landscape. Its presence brings together families, attorneys, advocates, and professionals who all converge on the same streets as commuters and visitors. This blend of people creates a rhythm that is serious yet steady, weaving the work of justice into the same blocks that host cafés, shops, and high-rises.
People first, always
Buildings may define the skyline, but people write the story. Parents carrying folders, partners bringing powers of attorney, friends offering rides, all deserve dignity and clear steps to move forward. In downtown, compassion shows up in small but meaningful ways: a supportive word, a shared coffee before an appointment, or simply the reassurance that someone is prepared to help.
Where a notary fits
In the middle of this civic corridor, notary services often make the difference between stress and relief. Legal documents, affidavits, or powers of attorney must be signed, sometimes without delay. When you search for a Downtown Notary Near You, I am already here. If you type notary near me open now, I want you to find someone who can actually meet you the same day. That is why I keep flexible scheduling for urgent requests and even offer Sunday notary availability to help families and professionals who need documents signed on their own time.
Impartial service, every client, every time
I am Zara Shea, Notary Public. I take impartiality seriously. That means I do not judge your past or your circumstances, I simply ensure your documents are handled with fairness and respect. Impartial service means accurate ID checks, careful recordkeeping, and a calm presence no matter what the situation is. My role is not to give advice, it is to help you move forward with clarity and dignity.

The fee is $95. This includes one notarization and up to 45 minutes inside the jail. That time covers check-in, waiting, and the actual visit with the person in custody.
Payment must be made in full before I enter the jail facility. I must meet with the paying party first and receive payment before starting the notarization process.
It is the responsibility of the person arranging the notarization to confirm with both the jail facility and the person in custody when the best time for me to arrive will be. This prevents delays and helps keep extra time fees from adding up.
If the person refuses to sign, or if I must refuse the notarization because they are unwilling, the law only allows me to charge $15 for the notarization itself. You will be refunded that $15. The facility fee and any extra time fees are not refundable.
I use a loose-leaf notarial certificate, either a jurat or an acknowledgement, depending on what is required.
After 45 minutes, there is an additional fee of $1 per minute. This fee is required if extra time is needed and, like the facility fee, it is non-refundable. The notarial certificate will not be released if this extra time fee is not paid.
These fees cover the time, effort, and waiting required for the jail process. Because that time is spent whether or not a notarization is completed, the fees are non-refundable.
